Collection: Switchplates

Talavera switchplates bring hand-painted artisan detail to every wall in your home. Use the guide below to find the right plate before you order.

Single vs. Double Plates

Single plates cover one opening (one toggle, one outlet, or one Decora rocker). Double plates, also called duplex covers, span two openings side by side and are sized differently — confirm your gang count before selecting.

Decora vs. Toggle Style

Decora (rocker) plates have a large rectangular cutout and fit standard paddle-style switches. Toggle plates have a narrow slot and fit the classic up/down lever switch. Check your existing hardware before ordering — the two styles are not interchangeable.

Duplex Outlet & GFI Compatibility

Duplex outlet covers fit standard two-plug receptacles. For GFCI/GFI outlets (common in kitchens and bathrooms), look for plates labeled duplex/GFI — the center cutout is slightly different to clear the test/reset buttons.

Matching the Pattern to Your Décor

For a coordinated look, match the dominant color or motif in your switchplate to the Talavera field tile, border, or trim already on the wall. High-contrast patterns (cobalt on white) make bold accents; tone-on-tone choices (terracotta with warm earth patterns) read as subtle details. When in doubt, choose a pattern that echoes one color already in the room rather than matching exactly. See our Tile Installation guide for layout and pairing tips.
